French nationality and naturalisation

Naturalisation, declaration through marriage, certificates of nationality.

The approach

Access to nationality is prepared long before filing. Residence, means and integration conditions are assessed over several years: a file lodged too early is deferred, and the deferral itself sets a new date. The first task is to say whether the application is ready, and if not, when it will be.

Refusals are essentially documentary or conduct-based — stability of means, tax compliance, command of French, absence of convictions. They are anticipated document by document. Where an adverse decision has already been made, it is challenged before the administrative courts within its own deadlines.

Matters handled

  • Naturalisation by decree — preparing the file and the interview
  • Declaration of nationality through marriage
  • Declaration based on apparent status or birth in France
  • Applications for a certificate of French nationality
  • Challenges to a deferral, a refusal or a finding of inadmissibility
  • Reinstatement of French nationality
