Practice is governed by the following instruments:

• Act no. 71-1130 of 31 December 1971 reforming certain judicial and legal professions
• Decree no. 91-1197 of 27 November 1991 governing the legal profession
• National Internal Rules of the French legal profession (RIN)
• Internal Rules of the Val-d'Oise Bar

Consumer mediation

In accordance with articles L. 612-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, any consumer client may refer a dispute free of charge to the mediator for consumer disputes of the legal profession.

Referral to the mediator requires a prior written complaint to the firm that has not received a satisfactory reply.

Fee disputes

Any dispute concerning fees falls within the jurisdiction of the President of the Val-d'Oise Bar, to be seised by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt, under articles 174 et seq. of Decree no. 91-1197 of 27 November 1991.

This route is available independently of consumer mediation.
